Archive 2025: Singapore, Science, and Memories

Can you believe it? It’s already been a whole year since I packed my bags and made the exciting move to Singapore to start my journey as a Research Fellow at the Alice Lee Center for Nursing Studies, NUS. Looking back on this time, it’s truly been a wonderful experience. Working at the eighth-best university in the world and collaborating with some of the top researchers in the field is something I don’t take for granted. Alhamdulillah, it’s been such an incredible journey so far!

Of course, it wasn’t always easy getting settled. Our journey has been filled with many ups and downs as we adapt to our new environment. From the initial stress of finding a place to stay to adjusting to everyday expenses and local food, we’ve truly felt how costly everything can be here. But tackling those challenges side by side has truly made our experience even more meaningful and unforgettable.

It wasn’t all just research and journals this year, though. I also ticked off a major item on my bucket list by visiting Finland. This trip was extra special because I had my wife by my side. Since I spend so many long hours at the university, she often spends a lot of time alone in our apartment. I know how lonely that can be, especially without our fur babies, DokDek and Yuki, to keep her company. Making her happy and sharing that experience together meant the world to me.

While staying in Singapore, we also took quick trips over to Batam Island to visit my younger sister, Yulia. Even though it’s so close to Singapore, it was my first time ever visiting Batam! It was great to reconnect and see a new place with family.

Looking back at 2025, it was quite an exciting year professionally. I was fortunate enough to publish in some top-tier journals and had the wonderful opportunity to speak at events alongside esteemed professors. Those moments are truly unforgettable. I also feel deeply grateful to remain in the Top 2% of scientists, which encourages me to continue striving for excellence.

I don’t know exactly what next year holds, but I’m closing the book on 2025 with a very full heart. Thank you, 2025, for being so kind to us. إن شاء الله, 2026 will also be a good year. I’m looking forward to more happy and peaceful times together with our cats and continuing to try my best to be a good husband.

This blog was written at our new place with DokDek, who never stops complaining, while Yuki enjoys her favorite spot inside (sijempu). Haha Alhamdulillah!
